How do y'all go about asking clients for testimonials, case study content, and referrals once a project wraps up?

The context:

This is specifically for people who do project-based work and need a bit more depth than "great work - would recommend" in a testimonial. Looking for a good way to integrate this in a project process / SOP. Any resources that helped you are welcome.
