Outpost is a huge reason why Revenue Rulebreaker still exists and I'm psyched to be partnering with them on a summer series to help indie publishers make more money with their newsletters and blogs.
If you haven't seen our work together before, I've been partnering with Outpost since January 2025, both here on Revenue Rulebreaker and on my former newsletter Journalists Pay Themselves (which has become the paidnewsletterplaybook.com.) Outpost and I run totally different businesses—they're a software company and I'm a publisher—but we share the ethos that backing independent media is the future we all need.
Together, we produce helpful events, case studies and guides to support the indie publishing community. That includes writers, journalists, designers and community builders who are using the Ghost platform to host their work. Outpost is a marketing and monetization tool that works with Ghost, allowing you to automate things like email communication and calls to action throughout your site. They're the reason I use Ghost, because I wanted to use their system to run my paid subscription. Outpost is independently funded and they are a publisher's cooperative where their members (not venture capitalists) inform what ships. They are also the only standalone marketing and monetization tool for publishers that I'm aware of.
