It's me. Not the depression.

I once asked my Grandmother what it was like growing up in the Great Depression and she responded:

“Oh, it was a wonderful time!”

?????

So I had to go ask my dad about this because I waited too long to interview Grandma about her life and she was definitely spouting off some wild stories.

Dad said something like:

“Grandma had a very different experience of the depression than most people. While your grandpa was walking the railroad tracks looking for spare coal to warm the house, your grandma was riding around in carriages and staying at hotels by the beach.”

Why?

Because her uncle owned a newspaper. The Minneapolis Star which is now part of the Star Tribune.

No matter how bad it gets.

There’s always someone who has money.

This lesson sticks with me.

For every time I hear someone say “it’s a bad time for freelance work,” or “no one’s buying fruit cakes right now,” I hear someone else say “it’s a wonderful time to be in this business!”

So with that in mind, let me take you inside my Black Friday promo week.
