Squarespace jacked their prices up this week and customers are livid. I've spent a few hours wading through social media posts and replies about whether it's time to leave and what better options exist. Some people are offering a single platform answer ("This is why I'm on WordPress") while others are pointing out that it's not super cost effective to redesign an entire website over a $100 extra bucks a year.
But there's a third group of people who are realizing we've struck an iceberg and we need to start preparing our own lifeboats.
I have long thought the answer to Squarespace's demise was web designers building their own cooperative platform. But it's not just them that we need to be worried about.
