Kristina Bartold-Sorgota just published a podcast episode on the question "Are you over-monetizing your community?"
I think I might be! I found this question fascinating because most discussions in the business space are about how we're all not selling enough or we're not selling the right way. Kristina's point in this episode is that you need to have built trust in order to sell to people. But it's hard to gauge when and where you have done that.
Reminds me of this South Park meme I love to put in my talks:

It's tough when you need buyers for something and no one's biting. You're not sure what to do or where to turn. You might need to spend more time understanding your people or figuring out smarter ways to find ready buyers.
On the other hand, I think a lot of small business owners aren't direct enough about what they're selling or they're selling too softly. I learn all the time that people are looking for clients that I could have connected them to but they'd never said it out loud.
I want to know: have you ever felt like you're over-monetizing your audience? How do you balance sales with trustbuilding?
