“Aren’t you sick of always reinventing yourself?”
My mom asked me earlier this year, pretending like she didn’t know this was my normal operating mode.
I mean…sure, in some ways, I am.
I’m super envious of my friend Ara who I met when I was in architecture school. Ara is now an architect and he’s the most hyper focused person I know. He finished undergrad, then graduate school, worked as an apprentice, started his own firm, and got his license in record time.
Night and day, Ara lives and breathes architecture.
Meanwhile, I went to a panel very early on in architecture school called “Architects Beyond Architecture” and thought, yeah, actually, I should quit. So I did. And I’ve had two entire careers since then.
I am both used to reinventing myself and I am tired of it.
Last Friday, I went to a 2024 Retrospective Workshop held by Sarah Jutras and Gabriela Néspoli.
(It was a KILLER session, by the way. I have never been to a virtual event that was so end to end incredible. Follow Sarah on LinkedIn. I’ll be at the February workshop.)
During the retro, I was paired up with someone to debrief the highs and lows of the year.
Their lows and mine all had to do with clients.
