How to pitch yourself and become a podcast guest

And how I booked a podcast on the wrong topic 🤦
Lex Roman 2 min read

I remember the first time I was interviewed on a podcast like it was yesterday.

A friend of a friend DMed me on Instagram to ask if I would be his first guest on a new podcast he was starting about life.

(Before you roll your eyes, this was 2013 so podcasts about “life” were still pretty novel…or at least more novel than now!)

He thought the story of how I got into my line of work would be interesting for his new listeners. I didn’t know anyone who had a podcast and I had never been on one so I thought “Sure! Sounds cool! Let’s do it!”

He booked a studio near my office in San Francisco, we recorded and released the show. And then…nothing.
