Brought to you by the fine folks at Outpost for Ghost publishers. Outpost automates everything you need to sell more subscriptions 🪐

Welcome back to No Monopoly Media Week. Every day this week, I'm sending you a story about why we should read, back or become indie media.
I'm doing this to raise awareness for the mission behind my work this year and to raise audience funding to keep going. Join my Summer Reader Raise if you'd like to be part of my projects. Shout out to Kelley and Deborah who became Legends this week. Become a Lifetime Legend for $297 and join us for our mixer next month and our Secret Santa Swap in November.
Everyone has a paid newsletter.
Or so it seems. And you can't even make it through the free ones! I have a confession to make...me neither.
Sure, I'm subscribed to about 1000 newsletters and I pay for about 15 of them, but I VERY RARELY read newsletters. Even the ones I pay for.
I can't believe you're reading this one right now!
So, why do I think paid newsletters are still your best entry point into media?
Because everyone needs a newsletter. NO MATTER your primary medium, you're going to want a newsletter to promote it.
Let's say you're mainly a podcaster.
How are people learning about new episodes of the show? Only from their podcast platform? Just from social media? No! Of course not. You've also got them on your list so you know who they are, so you can communicate with them and so you can encourage them to listen to the latest episode.
The same goes for YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, Bluesky, Instagram, blogs and anywhere else you could possibly be producing media. The only place you have full agency over your audience is still email.

What paid newsletters are for
