Does sliding scale pricing work for business owners?

This question was inspired by Legend [Erin Harker's membership](https://themagickmakers.com/kindred-club?ref=revenuerulebreaker.com) which she [wrote about for us here](https://www.revenuerulebreaker.com/the-month-i-almost-killed-my-membership-i-raised-my-prices/). Erin offers a sliding scale membership where you choose your pricing. This is common for events too. I've always been weary of this pricing model because I think already marginalized business owners are the ones who gravitate towards it and it seems like it would put you in a less strong financial position to keep your programs going. HOWEVER, I want to know if you've run sliding scale offers and how they've worked for you.
